Here is what Crazy Horse Monument looked like when I was last here. My Dad took my head and tried to make me look at it and "see" the carving. Yah, right.....even then I knew it was kinda a crazy idea and how long was it going to take until it looked like SOMETHING!

This white statue was also available back in 1977 and sadly I still could not get the vision of the mountain becoming Crazy Horse and his horse! I am very happy to give a 30 year update and say yes, you can now see what they are trying to do!!! Kinda sad that the man that started this process has died but his family is carrying on the tradition and keeping his dream alive. They take no federal money so it is all tourist dollars and private donations that make this happen. It is $10 per adult and $6 per kid or $27 per car. Who knows how they came up with this price but we maximized our $27 by having 5 adults and 2 kids in our car! The visitor center has grown to be a nice place to visit and learn about who started to build it, why his family continues, and will they ever get it done!

The kids were super duper excited at this point because they each donated money to the monument so they could have a piece of the rock that has been carved away. Best $1.00 each ever!!!! Kyle's rock will come to haunt us later in the trip but for now they all were so excited to be able to bring a piece of Crazy Horse Memorial home. I think this was their favorite part of this stop.

As you exit the building, this gate is in front of you. Each panel has an animal or plant cut out of the square. The kids liked looking at the different animals and looking back at us.

Here is Miss S and you can see some of the very cool detail work put into the gate. When we arrived it had started to sprinkle but by the time we left it was fine and no more rain. We stopped here for about 2 hours.
