Another of Aunt Ethel's traditions was to have a Weenie Roast. We have one for Grandma's birthday sometimes because she will ask for one but quite a large number of people would be gathering tonight at Aunt Alice's so a weenie roast it was. Randy's girls got the burn barrel and they set it up so we were all good to roast! If you did not find a stick you could always use an old fly swatter with the swatter part taken off!

We took our family picture tonight since I had asked all of us to wear red, white and blue today but I also asked the aunt's to come and take a picture too. Here is Grandma and her sisters. Joyce lives on the east coast and Grandma lives on the west coast so Alice holds down the midwest! They do not get to see each other as often as they wished but it goes right back to their childhoods when they are together. Grandma is not one to tell us her "secrets"...whatever they may be but Alice and Joyce will be happy to fill in the details. During this photo shoot, we heard the story of Joyce who was the youngest boobytrapped the stairs with cans and noisy metal things so when you opened the door the pile of cans would make a huge racket and wake everyone in the house up. Joyce was determined to tell their folks what time everyone came home. As each of the kids came home, they helped Joyce to boobytrap the next one and it would start all over again. Aunt Alice said that finally Grandma came home last so they just decided to sleep downstairs with Joyce. When they all got in bed, Joyce wanted to get back up because she forgot to check what the time was when they were all finally home. Alice and Grandma held her down and made her go to sleep!

This was the night we gave Grandma her surprise birthday cake and everyone gathered for a picture. Nancy's college roommate Twila and her husband Ed came by to say hi so they were elected the family photographers of the minute and I think they had about 5 cameras thrown at them to get this shot!

After the weenie roast with the fire still going you have to make smore's right.....Nancy had gone to Sam's Club for the hot dogs for us and we had stopped at the store for some soda, beer, salads, veggies and chips, my mom and Nancy think alike since they both bought smores stuff and there was plenty to go around.

Rebecca asking Dallas for the best way to roast a marshmallow! After the roasting, the kids got into Uncle Michael's fireworks! and had a great time with that!
